Our Mission
Our mission is to help human parents nurture happy and well-adjusted pups and kitties through behavioral modification training, obedience training, positive reinforcement shaping, smart play, and focused exercise.
We support forever home adoptions! We want to help all pets, especially those newly adopted, to adapt to their new homes and to create happy, healthy routines for them and their humans. Our goal is to make sure that no pet is returned to a shelter because of any unwanted behaviors.
Half Moon Cat Rescue
In the spring of 2018, we expanded our mission to include the Half Moon Cat Rescue to care for and stabilize three feral cat colonies on the eastern shore. We helped over 200 cats and kittens with Trap-Neuter-Return efforts, rescue and adoptions. Currently we are caring for our nine special needs rescues at our home base.
Anne Johns
Behavioral Coach, Trainer and Chief Problem Solver
Anne founded Down Dog Pets in 2013 with the goal of providing more than basic pet care. She works with clients to create lasting, healthy behaviors and routines for their pets.
Prior to starting Down Dog Pets, Anne spent 20 years in the fitness industry as a fitness and nutrition expert. She approaches behavioral coaching for animals with a similar emphasis on the link between exercise and well-being. Anne has worked with clients and their dogs to successfully address challenging behaviors such as separation anxiety, aggression towards other dogs, and over-activity. She also specializes in working with under socialized cats and dogs to get them ready for adoption and to help them settle into their new homes.
